West Down Beacon, the highest point on the the South West Coast Path between Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth in South Devon provides excellent views along the coastline in both directions; below it lies the rocky shore known as 'The Floors', inaccessible from above. A beautiful late autumn afternoon, an early dusting of snow, and some time to kill in the Exeter area, saw us walking up to the Beacon to get this shot, which is a view through a cluster of pine trees down to the curving shingle beach at Budleigh Salterton, the outlet of the River Otter, and the rocky outcrop of Otterton Ledge. The dusting of snow on the beach and green fields adds to the colourful contrast of the red cliffs of Devonian Sandstone against the deep azure blue of the cold sea.
