Varanasi, also known as Benares, is one of the world's most astonishing and timeless holy cities. Away from the bustle of the streets the bathing ghats alongside the River Ganges are peaceful and full of interest, presenting scenes and rituals largely unchanged for thousands of years. Dawn rowing boat trips provide an excellent opportunity to view and photograph the inhabitants and pilgrims going about their daily activities and washing away negative karma in their bathing rituals. As a photographer one has, of course, always to be sympathetic and careful in such situations and never intrude and depict your subjects in a way that might not meet their approval. I don't think any boundaries have been crossed in shooting this beautiful female artist, sitting on the ghats and painting the temples.
