The very narrow Via Virgillo Ceppari leads off the Piazza Grande inside the eastern gate of the pretty walled hill town of Panicale, just south of Lake Trasimeno. Entered through a dark archway this little street is attractively lined with pot plants. The pennant may represent a local ward or district in the town, like the famous contrade of Siena, or it may just be decorative. Capturing a scene such as this, with a huge dynamic range in the lighting, is a real challenge and this shot required several different exposures to be merged together, using a technique known as 'exposure fusion'.
